Compulsive sexual behavior can feel increasingly difficult to control, especially during periods of stress, loneliness, rejection, boredom, or emotional discomfort.
The pattern may involve pornography use, messaging, hookups, paid sexual encounters, infidelity, or other repeated behaviors. You may have tried to stop or reduce the behavior only to return to it despite consequences.
Compulsive sexual behavior is not simply the same as having a high sex drive. Clinical concern is more closely related to impaired control, secrecy, escalation, distress, risk, and interference with daily life or relationships.
I may integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, EMDR, Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, and trauma-informed therapy. Goals may involve abstinence, reduction, risk prevention, or healthier boundaries depending on your needs and values.
